Prayer & Meditation

"Beloved, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours." (Mark 11:24)

Prayer and Meditation
Prayer and meditation are key spiritual practices in Unity. Simply put, prayer is talking to God, while meditation is listening. When we pray, we align our words with Truth. When we meditate, we get quiet and listen to Spirit's wisdom and peace found deep within us. Prayer does not change God; it changes us by raising our consciousness.

Affirmative Prayer is based on faith, uplifted consciousness and gratitude. We affirm, in the present tense, the Absolute, Spiritual Truth. If you request prayers for health, for example, we will behold and claim your wholeness right now. We will also give thanks in advance, as Jesus taught, for what is already done in Spirit.

Meditation is generally a practice of sitting still and turning our attention inward in the quiet presence of Spirit. Sitting in silence is simple and powerful. This practice fosters inner peace and allows us to gain insight and guidance through communion with Spirit.

Labyrinth
Prayer and meditation can also be practiced by walking, among other expressions. Unity Center offers an ancient way to "walk" your prayers -- on our labyrinth. Labyrinths have been used all around the world dating back as early as 2500 BCE. Unlike a maze, a labyrinth pathway is clearly marked and there is only one way to go. The path leads one to the center and back out. The labyrinth is a metaphor for the spiritual journey. All we need to do is put one foot in front of the other and stay the course. The path that leads us to our spiritual center, or God, is clearly marked with prayer. Walking the labyrinth path consists of three phases:

The path in -- is an opportunity for letting go or shedding -- a way of quieting the mind.

The center -- is the place where we consciously reconnect with our Source. Often people will linger a while in the middle and pray or meditate.

The path out -- is for integration. You may feel lighter, freer, inspired or more at peace on your way out – we hope so! Having brought ourselves back to the peaceful center, we move out on the path to express in the world again. Ideally, that expression is more spiritually conscious as a result of our walk.

Prayer Requests
It is our blessing to pray with you. If you have a prayer request, please email us or put your request in our prayer boxes in the church lobby and foyer.

All requests are treated with reverence and confidentiality. After your prayer is received, our prayer team will begin prayer for your intention and will continue for 30 days, after which time your request will be sent to Silent Unity for another 30 days of prayer.

You also may call the church office at 573-447-0414 to request prayer.
